I didn't meet Bill until Junior High, but he was definitely an amazing guy. I was most impressed with the fact that he had taught himself Morse code and qualified for a ham radio license when he was about 12 or 13! He also turned me on to the new 10-speed bikes that made cycling so much easier than on our old single-speed paper-boy cruiser bikes.

I went to UCSD with him in 1965, but we lost track of each other, probably because I majored in surfing, partying and chasing women, while he actually worked hard at studying to get advanced degrees. smiley

I hooked up with him again on this site 11 years ago, and exchanged a number of messages about our lives since school. He was incredibly accomplished, indeed, but did admit that he was working too hard and not having enough fun. I recommended retiring and becoming a fun hog, which was my solution to career encroachment.

RIP, Bill. You will be missed.
