We are sorry to announce the passing of Doug Pickens. We wish we had more information, and could use your help if you have any information! We need to verify the birthdate and the date of his passing. IF this is the correct birthday, then his Nebraska parents migrated to Los Angeles where he was born. They then came south to San Diego, where his father was a bank teller in San Diego, and then they moved to the La Mesa area. The research is scant, and we will keep trying to properly honor Doug with more information. Rest in Peace!

By Mike Stuart: "I'm a cousin of Doug Pickens and he has many cousins in Nebraska, and I hope I can fill in some blanks for you. His birth date is correct, June 12th, 1947. We were notified of his passing in November 2025. We have found no obituary, and his Partner Faye, only gave us the details of what happened to him. It was a heart attack. After graduating from Helix High Doug enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was a military policemen in Saigon, South Vietnam. In 1968 he was involved in combat during the Tet offensive. He confided in me, as I am also a veteran, that it was a rough experience. He attained the rank of sergeant, and some of the awards I know about were the Vietnam service medal, national defense medal, and good conduct medal. I remember the year he spent in Vietnam was a tense time in our family. In the years after the Army, Doug owned and operated a lawn and landscape business. He also had a friend that was a pro golfer, and Doug caddied for him for many years on the pro circuit, which he really enjoyed. He managed the family investments including 2 farms at Inland, Nebraska. He was very good at this, and it gave his Nebraska family a chance to see him when he was in Nebraska on business. He was a positive person, and a devoted son, and grandson. We loved our California Cousin. Thank you, I hope this helps with his Helix Alumni info."
