In Memory

Nancy Lepore (Hughes)

April 12, 1947 – November 11, 2015
Nancy Ellen Lepore Hughes passed into the arms of her Heavenly Father November 11, 2015 in Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 68.   After being diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig ’s disease) in 2012, Nancy continued to embrace life, spent as much time as possible with those that she loved and thanked God daily for the gift of time.   She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born April 12, 1947 in Bristol, Connecticut to Rudy and Hazel Lepore.  She lived in Terryville, CT until 1953 when they moved to Le Mesa, CA where she grew up with her sister Karen and brother Robert.
Nancy is leaving behind her husband, Richard W. Hughes, who was the love of her life for 44 short but wonderful years. She will be waiting to be reunited with him in Heaven.  Nancy and Richard met in La Mesa, CA and were married on February 19, 1972.  Together they raised two children, Karen Christina Garcia and Jarod Clayton Hughes.  Nancy also has a son Carl Tinsley Sisson, III.  She and Richard have 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Nancy was proud to be the wife of a man who served his country for 25 years in the U.S. Navy.   During that time they had the opportunity to travel the world and live in amazing places such as Australia, Guam, California, Florida and Hawaii.  After retirement, they lived in South Lake Tahoe, CA, Coppell, TX and Colorado Springs, CO.
Nancy was a dedicated wife and mother and made her family the center of her life.  Prior to getting married Nancy worked as a Nurse’s assistant in the Surgical Department of a hospital.   During her travels as a military dependent she worked as pre-school teacher and in retail sales.  She enjoyed social activities and was involved with the chapel choir, bible study and youth groups as well as bowling leagues and square dancing.
In 1998, Nancy discovered quilting and made numerous quilts for family and friends.   She also made patriotic quilts and sent them in care packages to the men and women serving our country in war zones and to families who lost loved ones while serving.  In addition, she knitted and crocheted a countless number of hats and scarves for family, friends and the homeless.  She delighted in greeting random soldiers in uniform at airports with a hug, always thanking them for their service.
The two things that Nancy enjoyed most were dancing with her husband and family dinners.  Nancy and Richard never failed to impress, and often surprised, the young and old with their dance moves to music ranging from a waltz to a jitterbug.   The meals she served her family were prepared and served with an abundance of love and were always a crowd pleaser.
Nancy was a ray of sunshine and a source of joy.   She was inspiring, supportive and thoughtful.  She sprinkled love on everything she touched and made those around her feel special.  She was cheerful, enthusiastic and often goofy.  She had a way of making the most ordinary…extraordinary.  She was an angel on earth with a heart of gold.  Nancy will be forever missed, always cherished, and never forgotten.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered by her husband, daughter, sons, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, sister, brother, sister-in laws, brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held on November 19th at 2:00 p.m. at Woodmen Valley Chapel, Woodmen Heights Campus located at 8292 Woodmen Valley View, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80908.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making a donation to the ALS Foundation to support the fight to find a cure.

Thank you for posting this 'recap' of Nancy's full and wonderful life...what a blessing she has been to our World!  I totally related to her huge personality in school...and loved that this included a comment about her 'sometimes being goofy'...I remember that silly/wonderful energy and send my blessings to her entire family and close friends.

My memory fails me to exactly how we met in school although probably in grade school since my family moved to La Mesa in 1954. I do have good memories of occasionally  picking up Nancy when she needed a ride over to Grossmont College. I believe she lived somewhere near Fletcher Parkway. And yes, she always seemed friendly and amicable and very easy to like. Thank you for her biography. It is apparent she led a full and loving life and the world is an emptier place without her. God Bless you Nancy.

In Loving Memory

Nancy was a wonderful, vibrant and sometimes silly lady. We shared some great times throughout our four years at Helix. We had several classes together, however my fondest memories were our class time in Mr. Woods Civics Class. There was an instance where my smart mouth got me in some trouble with Mr. Woods. My penance was to learn the Preamble to the Constitution. With Nancy's help we memorized it that afternoon, which I proudly recited the next day in class. She was so patient and caring, obviously a trait she carried with her throughout life.

In our Senior Year Book, Nancy wrote a note asking me to take her out on a date. I never did. My loss. The truth is, I never felt good enough for her and was afraid of disappointing her. Nancy brought many blessings to many people. Heaven will be a much better place with her presence.

Richard,

I did not know Nancy in High School (no surprise).

From that obituary, I wish I had.

You were lucky, you snagged a good one.

May peace come to you, as she did your family.

Cyndee Spurlock (Krumholz)

I  received a lovely card from Nancy, and evidently it was supposed to be mailed after she passed.  She asked me to share her card with the class of 65:

Dear Cyndee,

When you receive this card, I will have left, my journey here on earth will have come to an end and I will be at "Home" with Jesus, my Lord and Savior.

My life has been Blessed with many gifts from God.  I was planning to come to the 50th Reunion of our class, but my illness progressed quicker than we expected.

I would very much appreciate if you could pass this information on to the "Class of 65".

Thank you, may God's love and grace be with you.  With love send from Heaven,

    Nancy Lepore-Hughes
